CLUNKER

Old vehicle traded in under the US government’s cash-for-clunkers program, which was rolled out in 2009 for a newer and more fuel-efficient vehicle. For a clunker to qualify, it must meet four conditions: drivable condition, continuously insured for a year before the trade-in, combined fuel efficiency of 18 miles a gallon or lower, and been manufactured over 25 years ago on the trade-in date.
