ANNUITY LADDER
A type of investment strategy for near-retirees or retirees that entails buying of immediate annuities over years to give a guaranteed income while reducing the interest-rate risk. Annuity ladders permits retirees to maintain a part of their investment in bonds and equities while periodically utilizing a part to purchase annuities. Buying annuities from different insurance companies minimizes the potential for losses in case an insurer goes under.
