ADDRESS VERIFICATION SERVICE - AVS
A tool give to merchants by the issuing banks and credit card processors for detection of any suspicious transactions in the credit card. The Address Verification Service (AVS) reviews the billing address given by the card user with the billing address of the cardholder recorded at the issuing bank. This activity is done as a part of the request of the merchant for the authorization of the transaction with the credit card. The credit card processors transmits a response code to the merchant with an indication of the degree of address matching, depending on whether the credit transaction will be rejected or accepted.
