Contribution to a company or project in the form of effort and toil. It is an ownership interest or increase in value made as a result of owner’s hard work. For cash-strapped entrepreneurs in start-up ventures, they prefer this method of establishing equity since they may not have sufficient financial capital to contribute to their business. In real estate, it pertains to value-enhancing improvements that homeowners done on their properties.
