MOVING EXPENSES

Tax-deductible expenses incurred when an individual and his or her family moves to a new residence because of a new job or change of location for an existing job. After meeting some baseline criteria for time and distance, taxpayers can deduct qualifying expenses for about one year after starting the new job.

Basic classifications of moving expenses include costs to pack and ship personal possessions, temporary storage fees, house hunting, and transportation of family members including meals and lodging.
