MBA PURCHASE INDEX
The weekly measurement of nationwide home loan applications, according to a sample of around 75% of US mortgages. Conducted by Mortgage Bankers Association, it does not include the number of houses bought or mortgage loans closed. Housing economists and homebuilders consider the index as a leading indicator in the housing market, and also use this to predict new and existing home sales.
