MATURITY MISMATCH
An occurrence when a business mismatches its balance sheet by acquiring more short-term liabilities than short-term assets to cover its liabilities, and possessing more assets than liabilities for its medium-term and long-term obligations. Hence, this leads to an imperfect hedge. Changes in the maturity of its assets and liabilities can reflect details in the liquidity of its position.
