MATADOR BOND

A foreign bond issued by a company not domiciled in Spain. Dominated in pesetas, these are typically corporate bonds. Before, the bonds were AAA-rated but through the years, sub-AAA matador bonds have been released, as well as those considered as non-investment grade.

The term came from bullfighters in Spain. Its market grew rapidly from 1987 to 1999, which attracted many huge local and foreign investors.
