A huge hedge fund established by well-known Salomon Brothers bond trader John Meriwether in 1993. It started with more than $1 billion in assets which focused on bond trading. As a result of high-risk arbitrage trading strategies, it was recognized with the near collapse of the worldwide financial system in 1998.
