LEHMAN BROTHERS

A worldwide financial services firm that was once considered as one of the significant players in the global banking and financial services industries. Specializing in investment and financial services, it declared bankruptcy in 2008, following the financial crisis on the same year. The company experienced a catastrophic collapse, caused by subprime mortgage exposure, negative rumors and alleged short selling in the market. The downfall also marked the start of the public’s awareness of the upcoming credit crisis and recession in the late 2000s. Henry Lehman, Emmanuel Lehman, and Mayer Lehman established Lehman Brothers in 1850.
