LATE-DAY TRADING

An unethical practice of buying or selling a hedge fund and recording the trades executed as if it occurred before the end of market trading. This is done to secure a better price. The net asset value (NAV) of a mutual fund is known at the end of the trading day, which is at 4pm EST. Hence transactions done after the trading day may distort the fund’s real NAV. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) prohibits this activity.
