INDEPENDENT AUDITOR
Certified public accountant that evaluates the business transactions and financial records of a firm he or she is not affiliated with. They are normally tapped to avoid conflicts of interest and to secure the credibility of the auditing process. They are even used or obliged to guard shareholders and possible investors from bogus or unrepresented financial claims made by public firms. Sometimes called external auditors.
