Currency abbreviation or symbol of Irish pound, the official currency of Ireland until 2002. The currency was composed of 100 pennies (pingin in Irish) and was presented by the symbol £ or IR£ to differentiate it from other pound100 currencies. Also called punt Éireannach in Irish.
