High-yield, insurance-backed debt instrument aimed to generate money in the event of a catastrophe such as earthquake or hurricane. It has a special provision stating if the issuer endures a loss from a specific catastrophe, that entity’s obligation to pay interest and/or give principal payments is either delayed or totally forgiven.
