ACQUISITION ACCOUNTING
A group of formal guidelines which describes how the liabilities, assets, goodwill of a target company and non-controlling interest must be reported by a buying company on its Consolidated Statement of Financial Position. With acquisition accounting, the acquired firm's fair market value is placed bet the intangible and tangible assets portion of the acquiring firm's balance sheet; any difference is considered as goodwill. Also referred as "business combination accounting."
