STATUTORY DEBT LIMIT
A Statutory Debt Limit is also referred to as ‘debt ceiling’, is the amount limitation that may be loaned. It was established under the Second Liberty Bond Act of 1917 to prevent the US Treasury from issuing new debt after the debt ceiling had been reached except in cases that the US Congress approves of a raised debt limit.
