SMOOT-HAWLEY TARIFF ACT
Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act is the law enacted for the purpose of increasing US farmer protection versus agricultural imports. The act was established in 1930 and has since then spurred import duties by as much as 50% that also sparked the uproar in the other sectors for the increase in their own tariffs. The increase in tariff for the sectors weighed on the economic strain experienced during the Great Depression.
