MBS POOL NUMBER

A digit or alphanumeric character designated to a mortgage-backed security by the issuer that serves as an identifier of the particular security. MBS Pool Number usually has six digits. Issuers use diverse alphanumeric characters as the starting digit in the pool numbers in order to distinguish that pool as their issue. For instance, a Freddie Mac 40-year pool number might be E54821, while a Fannie Mae 35-year pool number could be D54821.
