MARKET SHARE
Percentage of the market’s total sales volume or an industry earned by a company over a specific time period. To get the market share, divide the firm’s sales over the period by the total sales of the industry over the same period. The metric gives an overall idea about the company’s size within its market and its competitors. Investors look carefully at market share increases and decreases in order for them to see the sign(s) of the competitiveness of a company’s products or services.
