MARKET IDENTIFIER CODE - MIC
A four-character or four-character digit code used to represent stock markets and other exchanges in order to trade globally and for referencing computer systems. Market Identifier Code (MIC) is used for processing and clearing trades; and also being pushed towards global acceptance, as the security industry moves forward to straight-through-processing (STP). For instance, the London Stock Exchange utilize MICs as part of its SEDOL security-identifying system, an alternative to US-based CUSIP identifying system. Another example: the code for New York Stock Exchange is XNYS.
