JOINT

A legal terms that refers to an agreement or transaction where multiple parties act in accord. It can also pertain to various situations:

  • Joint account - two or more parties share a sole account (e.g. bank or brokerage account)
  • Joint tenancies - two or more parties share ownership in real estate property (e.g. joint tenants in common or tenancy by the entirety, a kind of joint tenancy which exists only between a husband and wife)
  • Annuities such as joint and survivor annuities - insurance products that keep up regular payment as long as one of the annuitants is alive
  • Joint ventures - two unaffiliated firms render financial and/or physical assets, as well as employees, to a newly-established corporation
