INTEREST EQUALIZATION TAX
Tax on foreign stocks and bonds acquired by American. Levied in 1963, it is designed to lessen the US balance of payments deficit by deterring investment in foreign securities and promote investment in domestic securities. IET rate was 15% on stocks that ranged from 1.05% to 22.5% on bonds depending on its maturity. This tax was eliminated in 1974.
