INDEX ARBITRAGE
Investment strategy designed to profit from discrepancies between the prices of actual and future contracts of the same stock index. This is done by either buying the stocks or the futures contracts and selling the other. There are times the investors can exploit market inefficiency to gain profit. But this opportunity disappears quickly once the other investors know and act on it.
