EXPROPRIATION
Process of taking a privately owned property by a government for public use. In the United States, the government is authorized to take any private property through eminent domain. The Fifth Amendment to the Constitution states such property won’t be taken for public use without rightful compensation. While there is compensation, the act occurs without the property owner’s permission.
