CONTRACTIONARY POLICY
Policy, used by the country’s central bank or finance ministry, which slows down an economy. The government places this macroeconomic tool to cut down the money supply and expenditure in a country. This is done by escalating interest rates and reserve requirements, as well as tightening the money supply, directly or indirectly. Although it gives no immediate effect, it is employed in high-growth periods of the business cycle.
